Bekonscot model village and railway is located in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire. It is a hidden gem that has captured the hearts of many families! I fondly remember school visits there throughout my own childhood. It strives to create an inclusive environment that caters to the needs of all visitors. It was established in 1929 and is the oldest model village in the world.
Bekonscot is a beautifully crafted model village that takes you on a journey through various scenes from British life. It is all meticulously built to scale. The attention to detail is astounding, from the tiny inhabitants going about their daily activities to the beautifully landscaped gardens. There are also multiple model railway lines that weave in and out of the scenes. The village is fully wheelchair accessible, ensuring that children with mobility difficulties can enjoy the sights without barriers. They do a lot to support local charities and good causes. As of 2025, they had donated over £21million.

Parents and carers will appreciate the thoughtful layout of the village. There are mini maps available, and the site is designed for easy navigation. There is plenty of room for wheelchairs and mobility aids. The paths are well-maintained, reducing the risk of bumps or interruptions during your visit. Additionally, benches scattered throughout the village provide comfortable resting spots for families to pause and take in the charming scenes. There is a picnic area with a tea shop and ice cream stand on site. For small children, there is also a magician for entertainment. For adults more interested in details, there are informative displays on how the village operates and is maintained.
The attention to detail is fantastic. The names of the various businesses include many puns. Every building is meticulously created to include painstaking details. There’s the building with smoke coming out of it near a fire station. An homage to Enid Blyton is in another part of the village – her ties are that she was a local resident. There are high streets, zoos, circuses, churches, town halls and more. All of the scenes have miniature people everywhere in various scenarios. There are more than 200 buildings and 4,000 inhabitants to see, so take your time!
Bekonscot has been awarded the Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice Award for 2025. This recognises them as one of the top 10% attractions to visit worldwide.

Another highlight of the Bekonscot experience is undoubtedly the miniature railway. There is a train ride for visitors around some of the grounds. Throughout the grounds, numerous model trains are constantly in motion. They add a dimension for appreciating the full beauty of the model village from a different perspective. These include miniature boats, a ski lift and a funicular amongst other items.
